This children’s Victorian writing desk and chair has been uniquely designed and refinished in an Alice in Wonderland theme.

The desk and chair have been painted using a beautiful high quality blue paint. The lid, (top and underneath), the base of the inside and the pull out drawer have been decoupaged with three different Alice in Wonderland themed rice papers. I have expanded the size of each of the pictures to fit the area through hand painting and blending in techniques.

Around the outside of the lid of the desk I have stenciled in gold paint some foliage. The edges and detail work of the foliage have been created using an acrylic paint pen, which really makes it pop out!

I have also stenciled Alice in Wonderland phrases on the pull out trays on either side of the desk - “Curiouser and curiouser” and “We’re all mad here”.

The gorgeous little vintage children’s balloon back chair has been painted in the same paint as the desk. I have build a new seat pad, added new foam and wadding and recovered the pad in an Alice in Wonderland themed upholstery fabric.

A black trim has then been added around the edges of the chair to finish.

A great deal of care and attention is taken with all of my pieces to prepare and refinish them. However, with a lot of vintage pieces there will inevitably be some signs of age which I like to retain. I feel this adds to the character and history of the piece.

Mandy took time and care in delivering it and although she emphasised the fact it was an old piece I can only re-emphasise that that is exactly what I was looking for. It is testament to her skills that she has given ‘Grace’ a wonderful new lease of life. The stencilling on the drawers is top notch; the piece is painted beautifully - including the bits you wouldn’t normally see, which I prefer. The beautifully highlighted claw feet on the bottom of the piece are a real treat to look at, and my beady-eyed art tutor/’general expert on painted stuff’ agreed Mandys’ work is superb – sympathetic to the piece and to a high standard.
