Hello, and welcome to my listing for this upcycled antique table. Heres my description of the design, products and processes.
The table came to the workshop from a Ribble Valley home, and it was cleaned thoroughly before assessment for a design plan. The framework was in good condition and the wood had a lovely antiqued dark finish so I wanted to keep as much of that old patina as I possibly could.
I hemp oiled the framework, but the top had some scars so it was in need of a new surface.
I wanted to feature the barley twist legs so the twisting parts of the leg were coated in two coats of ReColour Deep Delta recycled chalk paint, and then I applied gold leaf sheets to them before a very light sanding to bring out the two surfaces.
With the same effect in mind I started work on the table top, applying the Deep Delta first, followed by dappled glue size before layering on the gold leaf before sanding the whole surface lightly.
The barley twists and top were then given several generous coats of clear wax for protection.
The table can be cleaned using a slightly damp cloth when in use.
This is a great functional antique table given an attractive finish, in keeping with old patinas, such as verdigris and ageing precious metals. It's a unique table, with the new surface giving a glimmer of reflective metal and an underlying colour for more interest.
