This solid wood sideboard is my latest hand painted finished piece. Originally it had a mirror on the top, but by removing this it has made the piece more practical and modern.
I have cleaned and sanded the whole piece, including the 6 drawers, and hand painted the pine wood in Annie Sloan ‘Athenian Black’ which is ink black in colour. The paint has been applied in a textured way then lightly distressed to show the wood underneath and sealed with clear wax. This finish gives the piece a nice aged patina to compliment its antique condition. The 6 dovetail drawers are large and deep and they run smoothly. I have added 8 pewter cast iron handles to 4 of the drawers, to complete the contemporary restoration.

Mandy took time and care in delivering it and although she emphasised the fact it was an old piece I can only re-emphasise that that is exactly what I was looking for. It is testament to her skills that she has given ‘Grace’ a wonderful new lease of life. The stencilling on the drawers is top notch; the piece is painted beautifully - including the bits you wouldn’t normally see, which I prefer. The beautifully highlighted claw feet on the bottom of the piece are a real treat to look at, and my beady-eyed art tutor/’general expert on painted stuff’ agreed Mandys’ work is superb – sympathetic to the piece and to a high standard. I know I shall enjoy having Grace grace our home for many years".
