Antique Oak Armchair Throne Victorian Quality Carved Large Ornate Country House.

This is a striking example of a Jacobean Revival (also known as Neo-Jacobean) armchair,  dating from the late 19th. It combines heavy, ornate wood carving with vibrant upholstery to create a regal, "throne-like" presence.

Condition:

This chair has two areas of historic restoration.

First being the very top plinth which I'll try to show in the photos.

The second is the middle of the back rest. This has broken at some point and has been repaired, there is some slight movement in this area when it pressed.

The overall condition of the chair is solid. It is very usable and comfortable to sit in.

The fabric material, although had some signs of wear is in good condition, I would imagine this has been replaced 20 to 30 years ago.

Would make a fantastic statement piece.

Key Features & Design

Barley Twist Framework: The most prominent feature is the use of solomonic columns (barley twists) on the front legs, the arm supports, the back stiles, and the decorative lower stretchers.

Ornate Backrest: The high back features a central splat with deep openwork carvings of scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The top rail is crowned with a "crest" featuring carved leaves and berries.

Carved Detailing: The wood—which is dark-stained oak is extensively detailed. Notice the scrollwork on the armrests (terminating in "volutes") and the decorative carvings along the seat rail.

Upholstery: The seat and arm pads are finished in a rich red velvet (or plush fabric), secured with brass-colored upholstery tacks (nailhead trim), which provides a sharp contrast against the dark wood.

Delivery is via a reputable courier who will use protective blankets during transportation and will liaise with the buyer during the transportation process.
