Blue Vintage Writing Bureau

A beautifully vibrant bureau with drop down writing leaf supported on hinged arms. There are four generous drawers and two small internal drawers. 

The original dark wood finish was showing age and wear (some minor signs of wear still evident). I decided to bring the piece up to date and chose a beautiful blue by Fusion Mineral Paint called Champness. For the interior a chose a pale yellow called Sandcastle by Dixie Belle Paint to provide a good contrast.

To begin, the desk was cleaned with sugar soap and warm soapy water. I did a light scuff sand and then primed every surface with an adhesion primer called Bonding Boss. Next I applied three coats of paint to the exterior and interior. On the leather writing pad, I masked on some stripes to bring the external colour inside. The leather was then finished in a Polyvine Matt varnish to provide some extra protection.

All drawers were refreshed inside with Pledge repair oil to minimise scuffs and to nourish the wood.

To finish, I hung a large decorative key tassel.

THE SEATING CLEARANCE is 74cm from floor to the underside of the writing leaf.
