Bureau Writing Desk

A vibrant bureau writing desk with one drawer and lockable cupboard space. The writing leaf drops down and is supported on pull out arms. The desk is vintage and dates around the 1960s. 

The original finish, a dark Oak stain was quite scuffed and faded. The interior was equally showing its age and needed a refresh to bring it back to life. 

To begin, I cleaned the entire piece with sugar soap and warm water. Next, I applied an adhesion primer called Bonding Boss by Dixie Belle. The rusty faded red shade that I chose for the exterior is called Sienna from the Fusion Alchemy paint range. The interior shade of blue is by Fusion Mineral Paint and is called Champness. Three coats were applied and then sealed with Polyvine matte varnish. I then added alternating stripes to the leather inlay writing surface to add some character.

The cupboard space below was refreshed using Pledge repair oil to cover minor scuffs and nourish the wood.

To finish, I hung a coordinating decorative key tassel.
