Exceptional 1950s Oak Haberdashery Cabinet – 28 Drawers

A beautiful and increasingly hard-to-find early 1950s oak haberdashery cabinet, manufactured and supplied by D. Matthews & Son of Liverpool – a highly respected supplier of quality office and shop furniture established in 1848, now known as EFG Matthews.

Crafted from oak, this impressive cabinet features 28 generously sized drawers, each expertly constructed with traditional dovetail joints, reflecting the exceptional quality and craftsmanship these commercial cabinets were built with.

The cabinet spent its working life in a Liverpool retail store until the business closed in 2010, after which it was carefully preserved in a private home. It remains in very good condition, with only minor age related wear and tear. The most notable age related mark is a small area of filler on the right hand side. It has a wonderful aged patina that only decades of honest use can create.

Both a practical storage solution and a striking statement piece, this cabinet would look equally at home in a period property, modern interior, studio or retail space. Genuine haberdashery cabinets of this quality with the three across drawers and the provenance this piece has are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
