Large Antique Oleograph Biblical Scene Picture in Gilt Frame – Ornate Gilt Frame

An impressive and highly decorative large antique oleograph depicting a biblical scene, presented in a substantial gilt frame.

The scene depicts Christ and his disciples gathered around a table, surrounded by numerous figures and set within a wonderfully detailed classical architectural interior of sweeping arches, columns and distant buildings. The rich, muted colouring and considerable detail give the picture wonderful presence.

The image has the appearance of an oil painting but is believed to be an oleograph/chromolithographic image on canvas, a technique particularly popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries for reproducing important works of art.

Presented in a substantial decorative gilt frame with moulded detailing. At almost 1.3 metres wide, this is a particularly striking piece and would make an excellent focal point in a hallway, dining room, living room or traditional interior.

The picture has plenty of age and character. The frame has various marks, scuffs and areas of wear, including some losses to the gilt finish where the lighter/white ground beneath is visible, as shown in the photographs. These have been left untouched rather than restored and are consistent with the overall aged appearance of the piece.

Condition: Antique condition with age-related wear throughout. The frame has marks, scuffs and areas of gilt loss, with the lighter ground showing beneath in places. Please study the photographs carefully as these form part of the item description.
