Great patina!
This chest also makes a great coffee table. It has wrought iron handles. 
The trunk has a hinged lid and is in good solid condition with plenty of age related wear. 
The chest was bought back from Normandy (France) at the end of WWII.
 It was found in the barracks of a liberated airfield and used by an army engineer for some years after the war. 
The trunk remains fully fit for use.
