A rare and wonderfully unusual antique Black Forest jewellery casket, featuring an intricately carved pair of pheasants to the lid and an ingenious arrangement of concealed storage compartments within.
Crafted in richly toned wood, the casket has an architectural, almost miniature-cabinet appearance, with ornate detailing throughout and a beautifully sculptural pair of game birds forming the centrepiece of the lid.
Opening the casket reveals a series of folding side compartments surrounding a larger central storage section, creating numerous individual spaces for jewellery, watches, brooches, keepsakes and treasured heirlooms. The interior has been newly lined in a rich green velvet, chosen to complement the warmth and character of the antique wood while giving the piece a luxurious finish.
Both decorative and highly practical, this would make a striking addition to a dressing table, study or country-house interior, and would equally suit a collector of unusual antique boxes or Black Forest pieces.
With its intricate carving, substantial construction and wonderfully unexpected interior, this is a rare statement piece and would make an exceptional gift or heirloom.
