A beautifully reimagined vintage chest with a wonderfully unusual character
This striking vintage chest of drawers has been given a sophisticated new look whilst retaining some of its most beautiful original features.
The solid wood chest of drawers, originating from South Africa, has been finished in a deep, sophisticated dark charcoal grey with a subtle warmth that works beautifully alongside the rich walnut-toned drawer fronts.
The drawer fronts have been completely stripped back and refreshed with Walnut Gel Stain, allowing the beautiful natural grain and unusual panelled detailing to remain visible. The contrast between the warm timber and deep black frame is particularly gorgeous.
The original solid brass handles have been carefully cleaned and restored, revealing their beautiful aged character. Their intricate design works perfectly with the darker finish and warm walnut.
Inside, the drawers have been lined with a textured black croc-effect self-adhesive wallpaper, adding a luxurious little surprise when the drawers are opened.
The result is a piece that feels moody, elegant and wonderfully individual, with a lovely balance between original character and contemporary styling.
This is not a mass-produced piece. Its unusual shape, carved detailing, turned feet and original hardware give it a presence that simply isn't found in modern furniture.
