This sturdy vintage writing desk came to me in great condition but was in need of an update. Heavy layers of high gloss varnish were sanded away taking the bureau back to bare wood. Having decided to keep the drawers exposed, the wood was then treated to some TLC with Osmo oil to bring out the grain. The main body has been given three coats of Fusion Mineral paint in Midnight Blue with the interior being painted in Champness, a co-ordinating pale blue, and complemented with gold highlights.
Graham & Brown’s Lock & Key Aqua wallpaper has been used on the writing area, the back panel and for lining the drawers. The bureau was then protected with several coats of Polyvine matt varnish. The original hardware was removed, given a deep clean and polish, refitted and now shines once more. Finally, all the drawers were given a liquid wax feed and a slim motion-sensor light has been fitted which gently illuminates the writing area.
