Handmade steamer trunk coffee table with a genuine antique leather top, hand-pinned in England. Chestnut with royal blue banding. One of a kind.
This steamer trunk coffee table is built around a genuine antique leather top — a reclaimed panel with a patina that comes only from real age, not from any dye or finish I can apply to new leather. It's paired with a hand-dyed chestnut leather body, hand-pinned to a solid hardwood frame in my Nottingham workshop, and trimmed with a royal blue leather banding for a distinctive contrast you won't find on a standard chestnut piece.
Because the top is genuinely antique, this exact piece is one of a kind — I can build the same design in new leather to order, but the top's specific patina and character won't be repeated. Solid brass locks and side handles complete the authentic steamer-trunk detailing, and the lid lifts to reveal generous interior storage.

Length: 90 cm / 35.4 in. Width: 50 cm / 19.7 in. Height: 40 cm / 15.7 in.
Colour/materials: Chestnut hand-dyed leather body. Top is genuine antique leather (reclaimed, one-of-a-kind patina). Royal Blue leather banding trim. Solid brass locks and side handles. This specific antique top is unique to this piece — new-leather versions in your choice of colourway can be built to order, just message me.
What you get: a genuine antique leather top panel with natural, unique patina; a hand-dyed chestnut leather body; royal blue leather banding for contrast trim; a solid FSC-certified hardwood frame; hand-pinned construction with no assembly required except optional feet; solid brass locks and side handles; a lift-up lid with generous interior storage. This is a one-of-a-kind piece — this exact antique top will not be repeated.
Bespoke orders: this particular piece is one of a kind due to its genuine antique leather top. If you'd like the same design built fresh, I can make it in your choice of colour way using new leather throughout — just note the patina and character of a new top will differ from this original.
Our craft: every piece that leaves my workshop is built the same way it would have been 100 years ago — leather hand-pinned to a solid hardwood frame, finished with solid brass hardware. No shortcuts, no laminates, no mass production. On this piece specifically, the antique top adds a layer of genuine history that new leather simply can't replicate.
About me: I'm Nick, a self-taught leather craftsman based in Nottingham, England, with over 25 years' experience making trunk-style furniture by hand. Alongside building new pieces, I restore antique luggage — which is where reclaimed panels like this trunk's antique leather top come from. Everything in my workshop, from hand-dyeing leather to fitting the final brass lock, is done using traditional tools and techniques built up over a quarter of a century.
Shipping: free worldwide shipping, with all import duties paid by me wherever you're ordering from. Lead time is typically 3–7 business days for this piece as it's ready to ship (bespoke rebuilds vary and will be confirmed at order). 30-day returns. Care instructions: wipe with a dry cloth and keep away from direct heat sources.
FAQ:
Is the top actually antique? Yes — it's a genuine reclaimed antique leather panel, not new leather treated to look aged. That's why its patina can't be exactly replicated.
Is this a one-of-a-kind piece? Yes — because the top is a specific reclaimed antique panel, this exact piece won't be repeated. I can build the same design fresh in new leather, but the top's character will differ.
What does "hand-pinned" mean? It refers to the traditional method I use to fix leather to the hardwood frame by hand, rather than machine-stapling or gluing — the same way antique trunks were originally built.
Can I order this exact design in a different colour? Yes — I can build the same trunk design to order in your choice of leather colour way, though it would use a new leather top rather than this reclaimed antique panel.
Are the locks functional? Yes, the solid brass locks and side handles are fully functional as well as decorative.
Do you ship outside the UK? Yes, I ship worldwide for free, and I cover all import duties on your behalf — you won't be charged anything extra on delivery.
How sturdy is the antique top for everyday use? It's solid enough for coffee table use, though as with any genuine antique material, I'd recommend treating it with a little more care than a brand-new leather surface.
Will the chestnut body develop more patina over time? Yes — the chestnut leather body is vegetable-tanned and will continue to deepen and develop character with age, alongside the antique top.
Can I see more photos or a video before buying? Yes, just message me — happy to share additional detail shots of the antique top and banding.
What's your returns policy? I offer a 30-day return policy from delivery; please get in touch if anything isn't right and I'll sort it.

"I don’t like to match furniture and love mish mash, quirky and odd looking things lol. I absolutely love them. My house is 203 years old and is grade II listed. I think it makes an old cottage come alive and puts a modern twist on it. I love furniture that tells a story or gets people talking at a house party".
