There is a quiet confidence to pieces that have endured the passing of time and this antique oak washstand carries it beautifully.

Originally crafted as a Victorian washstand in the Jacobean Revival style, this piece has been carefully restored and thoughtfully transformed into a bathroom vanity, preserving the character and craftsmanship that define its history. Compact in scale yet rich in presence, it is ideally suited to interiors where authenticity and timeless design take precedence over excess.

The oak has been restored with restraint and respect. Its original finish was gently removed while preserving the natural patina beneath, allowing the timber to retain the depth and individuality that only age can create. A Jacobean oak stain enriches the grain with warm, grounded tones, resulting in a finish that feels established rather than newly applied, textured, nuanced and full of quiet character.

Its silhouette remains true to its Victorian origins. Clean proportions, barley twist legs and panelled cupboard doors lend elegance and balance, while the original brass hardware introduces subtle contrast and a sense of continuity with the piece’s past.

Practicality has been integrated discreetly, ensuring modern functionality without compromising the exterior appearance. Behind the double doors, a generously sized cupboard provides useful concealed storage for everyday essentials.

The vanity is topped with its original antique marble work surface, which has been carefully polished and re-chamfered to restore its finish while preserving its age and character. The original upstand, complete with matching inset marble, has also been restored, lending the piece an added sense of grandeur and refinement.

An oval countertop basin sits neatly upon the stone, maintaining a clean and elegant surface. Paired with a traditional-style tall antique brass tap and matching waste, the materials work together harmoniously to create a composed and timeless finish.

To ensure durability within a bathroom setting, the entire piece has been sealed in a clear satin lacquer, offering protection against moisture, vapour and daily use while allowing the natural beauty of the oak to remain fully visible.

With well over a century behind it, this is a piece whose appeal lies not in excess, but in balance, understated, functional and deeply characterful.

A considered choice for interiors where craftsmanship and subtle elegance speak louder than scale.

"I don’t like to match furniture and love mish mash, quirky and odd looking things lol. I absolutely love them. My house is 203 years old and is grade II listed. I think it makes an old cottage come alive and puts a modern twist on it. I love furniture that tells a story or gets people talking at a house party".
