Antique Oak Vanity Unit

There’s something special about furniture that has already lived a life before finding its place in your home. This beautiful antique oak vanity began over a century ago as a Jacobean Revival buffet cabinet, crafted sometime between the 1920s and 1930s, built not only to serve a purpose, but to last.

You can still see that history in every detail.

The carved panel doors, turned front legs and original decorative oak up-stand give the piece a real sense of character and craftsmanship that simply cannot be recreated today. This was furniture made in an era when pieces were built slowly, properly and with pride.

During restoration, the oak was carefully stripped back by hand to reveal the richness hidden beneath decades of old finish. Rather than sanding away its age, we chose to preserve the natural texture and personality of the timber. The deep walnut-toned finish enhances the grain beautifully, bringing warmth and depth to every surface while allowing the original craftsmanship to remain the focal point.

What makes this piece particularly special is how naturally it lends itself to its new role. Behind the original panelled doors sits a generous cupboard space spanning the full width of the vanity, offering practical everyday storage while keeping the exterior appearance completely authentic. It feels like a piece of furniture first and a bathroom vanity second, which is exactly what gives it so much charm.

The worktop introduces a lighter contrast to the richness of the oak below. Finished in Amber stone with delicate gold veining flowing softly through the surface, it brightens the piece without taking attention away from the timber. The Cove DuPont edge profile adds a subtle decorative touch, while the restored original oak up-stand creates a beautiful sense of continuity between old and new.

At the centre sits a large oval under-mounted basin, understated and elegant in shape, paired with chrome Bristan three-hole crosshead taps that suit the period styling perfectly. Together, the combination feels timeless, warm oak, crisp stone and polished chrome all balancing one another effortlessly.

Of course, while the piece carries history, it has been prepared for modern life. The entire vanity has been professionally sealed in a durable clear satin lacquer to protect it from moisture, steam and daily bathroom use, ensuring the timber remains both beautiful and practical for years to come.

This isn’t just a vanity unit; it’s a piece with a past. One that has been carefully restored, thoughtfully repurposed and given the opportunity to be enjoyed all over again.

The kind of piece people notice the moment they walk into the room, not because it shouts for attention, but because it feels genuine, warm and quietly timeless.

"I don’t like to match furniture and love mish mash, quirky and odd looking things lol. I absolutely love them. My house is 203 years old and is grade II listed. I think it makes an old cottage come alive and puts a modern twist on it. I love furniture that tells a story or gets people talking at a house party".
