Hello and welcome to my listing for a hand painted 1953 original G Plan five drawer chest.
The chest has a top drawer with dividers and a deep bottom drawer, and the added bonus of castors for easy movement.
The top drawer bears the original E Gomme High Wycombe branded logo inside, and all the drawer interiors have been left in their original condition, cleaned and enhanced with beeswax.
The redesign to the surface consists of three coats of yellow chalk paint, followed by a hand drawn design. I plotted the design on paper before applying it in chalk to the surfaces. I borrowed design inspiration from original 1953 Atomic style wallpapers and fabrics.
The first colour blocks are solid chalk paint shapes, and each colour was chosen from a 1953 interior colour palette.
The lines and stars were hand painted in ReColour recycled chalk paint in brave blue, and finally the hollow shapes were picked out in gold size before coloured metal leaf was applied.
I cleaned off all my existing chalk guidelines before sealing all the surfaces with lacquer, made by Whitsons and Fusion.
For staging I just used some simple circular cut outs against my white studio wall, and the photos here are mainly natural daylight with a bit of staging light added.
I have the original drawings of the design in my sketchbook and I also have a lot more photographs and videos of the processes used during the redesign of the surfaces.

All is well with the cabinet and looks great. It's in storage for a while, the room is not ready as the house is under renovation but will be perfect and I think will be much-loved. Bringing a house and furniture to life is a rewarding combination.
