Welcome to my listing for what I think is a Burr Walnut (please message me if I'm wrong!) chest of drawers.

It came to the workshop with a small mirror on top with two small drawers, and they were very loose. As a dressing table it didn't seem to function but with the mirror removed it looked incredible as a chest of drawers. 

The drawer fronts were in beautiful condition and the wood was striking to look at so thankfully they were able to stay original, but the surround needed some repair so it required paint.

I filled in the scratches and holes on the outer after I cleaned everywhere thoroughly, and I set about mixing a perfect colour match paint for the outer.

I used a black chalk paint base mixed with Annie Sloan Primer Red to get the 'raisin' colour I wanted, and I applied three coats to the top, to make sure it was going to work with the drawers. I sanded back to get a nice antiqued outline for the edges, and a genuine -looking aged patina, before I applied clear wax, and then Annie Sloan dark wax, which made the paint colour rich and warm looking, and perfect for working with the grain colours.

I was happy with everything so I continued to finish the sides and front in the same way. The back had some lovely rustic slats of wood, so I washed them with the hand mixed raisin brown colour. Every surface was waxed and buffed to a subtle shine and a protected finish. 

For the handles I had to apply brass restorer and do quite a lot of scrubbing with metal brushes to get them clean and polished, and then I reinstated them on the drawer fronts. They are original and appear to be very old. I used the original screws, after cleaning them, to put them back in place.

I'm delighted with this piece, although its a beautiful rare piece of furniture, I have worked hard on getting the areas which had to be painted to a good colour and finish, and I think its a gorgeous statement functioning chest of drawers for a new lucky owner.
