Ardbeg 1994 Whisky Barrel Top Coffee Table

Whisky barrels can be over 80 years old before they are retired, starting out in the USA as bourbon barrels, before coming to Scotland where they may be filled and emptied several times. 

This table top bears the details of its final stop at Ardbeg Distillery in Islay, as well as the multiple layers of paint applied each time the barrel was refilled with whisky, before being laid down to mature.  Barrels interiors are charred to add flavour and colour to the spirit, but don’t worry, this has been brushed back and sealed with gloss varnish to protect (although I’ve left a centre point bare so you can relish the smell of the angel’s share).

The top is supported by 4 steel, black, hairpin legs.

Most of my pieces are rescued from landfill and whilst I clean, repair and prep all pieces before upcycling, some signs of ageing and wear and tear cannot be fixed - I like to think these imperfections add to the character of the pieces.
