These two Edwardian rattan seat chairs are a mismatched pair but they seemed to belong together! They’ve both had a sympathetic refinish with a lick of Ash black from @fusionmineralpaintuk, I also dabbed Fusions ‘Plaster’ onto the rattan seat to lighten it then wiped it back for a subtle effect. After using wet sandpaper to give them an aged, gently distressed look I finished them off with a nourishing furniture wax for a soft lustre.

During the upcycling process I have taken care to ensure the finish is to a high quality. The paints I use are professional grade specifically for furniture upcycling. I prefer the mineral silk paints rather than chalk paint - this makes my products durable and gives a good quality finish. I use top coats such as Polyvine decorators varnish and on this piece.

* These pieces have both age and history and have been previously loved, there may therefore be signs of a life well lived. I have however taken care to lovingly restore it (as with all my work) to a beautiful re-loved statement piece that would sit proudly in any home. If it's a perfect factory finish you're after then upcycled may not be the best choice for you. All my pieces are chosen for their character and (like all of us) may have small flaws that add to this.

"I was looking for a piece to stand next to a small ornate fireplace in our 1920’s build home and kept coming back to this lovely makeover, named ‘Grace’. I’m so delighted to have bought it. Mandy took time and care in delivering it and although she emphasised the fact it was an old piece I can only re-emphasise that that is exactly what I was looking for. It is testament to her skills that she has given ‘Grace’ a wonderful new lease of life. The stencilling on the drawers is top notch; the piece is painted beautifully - including the bits you wouldn’t normally see, which I prefer. The beautifully highlighted claw feet on the bottom of the piece are a real treat to look at, and my beady-eyed art tutor/’general expert on painted stuff’ agreed Mandys’ work is superb – sympathetic to the piece and to a high standard.
