Welcome to my listing for the "Sound wave" desk, a testament to creativity, sustainability, and hidden expletives! Crafted from reclaimed wood and transformed with a matte black paint finish, this upcycled desk is a fusion of elegance and punk rock ethic.

The deep black hue is recycled chalk paint made by Dulux'x community repaint ReColour range, finished with Annie Sloan Black Wax. Upon closer inspection, texture and wood grain emerge through the paint, adding depth and character to the desk's surface.

What truly sets the "Sound wave" desk apart is the applied gold leaf that depicts a sound wave of a male voice shouting ' F**k off!'. The raised, ornate patterns of the gold leaf create a slightly tactile finish.

When the right angle and lighting converge, the hidden message is a gilded revelation amid the dark backdrop. It's a reminder that there is visual beauty in sound, and there are ways to capture it.

The desk is hopefully not just a piece of furniture; it encourages exploration and introspection. It symbolizes the beauty that can be found in the unexpected. With its blackened elegance and gold leaf message, it's a conversation starter and a source of focus in any room.

Processes, Design, Products and Techniques.

The up cycle and prep for the bodywork was straight forward - thorough cleaning and fillering followed by three coats of recycled chalk paint by ReColour in black.

The legs then had gold size applied and 75 sheets of fine grade gold leaf were attached, and sealed with dark wax

The drawer front sound wave design came from a design by Scorched Earth Industries. You can find the original on Etsy.

To recreate it I used a fine tipped edge to replicate the sound wave pattern in gold size and then applied another 10 sheets of gold leaf to the size.

The whole desk and drawer fronts were then treated with dark wax to seal the finish.

The top of the desk is an original leather writing pad so please expect to find that this area has a vintage patina. The dimples from pens and objects placed on the surface can be picked out when you look closely but it has no detraction from the statement look of the entire piece.

"I was looking for a piece to stand next to a small ornate fireplace in our 1920’s build home and kept coming back to this lovely makeover, named ‘Grace’. I’m so delighted to have bought it. Mandy took time and care in delivering it and although she emphasised the fact it was an old piece I can only re-emphasise that that is exactly what I was looking for. It is testament to her skills that she has given ‘Grace’ a wonderful new lease of life. The stencilling on the drawers is top notch; the piece is painted beautifully - including the bits you wouldn’t normally see, which I prefer. The beautifully highlighted claw feet on the bottom of the piece are a real treat to look at, and my beady-eyed art tutor/’general expert on painted stuff’ agreed Mandys’ work is superb – sympathetic to the piece and to a high standard.
