This large Ercol style table came to the workshop needing a surface colour change.
It has been checked for any labels etc but I don’t as yet know the maker. It’s very stylish and iconic and a stunning statement piece.
I wanted to make this a statement table for those who love their sixties design, so I chose a black base, waxed with brown ageing wax for protection and to make the colour warmer. The table top has a black, orange, ochre and grey textured base and a metal leaf hand crafted finish.
Working with just two brands, the wax is Annie Sloan and the black is a fully recycled chalk paint made by ReColour.
They were both great to work with and the full table top surface was treated to Annie Sloan clear wax once the processes were finished and dry.
The patterning on the table top is made using vintage decorators rollers, by working the pattern on top of the black and using the roller in different directions to cover the surface with metallic textures.
The table top is fully functional as it’s been waxed and sealed against spills etc.

The products I use are low to zero voc, eco friendly and the surfaces I work on would otherwise be destined for landfill.

Mandy took time and care in delivering it and although she emphasised the fact it was an old piece I can only re-emphasise that that is exactly what I was looking for. It is testament to her skills that she has given ‘Grace’ a wonderful new lease of life. The stencilling on the drawers is top notch; the piece is painted beautifully - including the bits you wouldn’t normally see, which I prefer. The beautifully highlighted claw feet on the bottom of the piece are a real treat to look at, and my beady-eyed art tutor/’general expert on painted stuff’ agreed Mandys’ work is superb – sympathetic to the piece and to a high standard. I know I shall enjoy having Grace grace our home for many years".

"I don’t like to match furniture and love mish mash, quirky and odd looking things lol. I absolutely love them. My house is 203 years old and is grade II listed. I think it makes an old cottage come alive and puts a modern twist on it. I love furniture that tells a story or gets people talking at a house party".
